75-year-old Steve Martin just got the first round of the COVID-19 vaccine and has shared his experience on Twitter with his fans. “Good news/Bad news. Good news: I just got vaccinated! Bad news: I got it because I’m 75. Ha!” He says on Twitter, adding a little bit of humor into the mix.

“The operation in NYC was smooth as silk (sorry about the cliché @BCDreyer!) and hosted to perfection by the US Army and National Guard,” he adds. “Thank you all, and thank you science.”

What Steve Martin has to say about the COVID-19 vaccine

Good news/Bad news. Good news: I just got vaccinated! Bad news: I got it because I’m 75. Ha! The operation in NYC was smooth as silk (sorry about the cliché @BCDreyer!) and hosted to perfection by the US Army and National Guard. Thank you all, and thank you science.

A fan wrote back to Martin with questions about the experience: “How did you get the shot, where did you sign up. We cannot find a place for my 83 year old mother in law who lives in NYC.” And he actually responded to help out this wondering fan! “I signed up ON line through an NYC dot gov website (sorry I don’t have the exact site), and waited IN line at the Javits Center,” he writes back.

He shared one last tweet replying to a now-deleted tweet, presumingly about side effects of the vaccine (which has been the talk of the town since it became available). “Right now, I’m having no fide resects,” Martin replies in more witty humor.

Martin is just one of the many celebrities to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, many of them being older in age which is the leading cause of them receiving it. Martha Stewart recently shared her experience getting the vaccine at 79 years old. “I was vaccinated today in a designated vaccine pod near the Martha Stewart Center for Living at Mount Sinai Downtown I am so proud of and grateful to the doctors, nurses and medical staff who are wading through the red tape and confusion of the distribution of these very important vaccines,” she shares in a video to her following. ”I am excited to have received my dosage and look forward to the booster. The doctors told me 10,000 applications were received by Mount Sinai right after the state released this batch of vaccines.”

She adds, “Here’s to the advancement of science and a heartfelt thanks to those working on the vaccines. We are all hoping for an end to this pandemic.” Other well-known public figures to have received the vaccine include Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, both of them in their 90s.
