Southwest Airlines is trying to help out during the pandemic. They have donated 7,500 roundtrip flights to people in need of urgent medical care. This rounds up to about $3 million. Many of the trips are going to nonprofit hospitals all over the country.

Southwest Airlines released a statement about the donation. The news release read, “As the airline with heart, we have a passion for making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. Through our Medical Transportation Grant Program, our hope is to ease the financial burden of air travel expenses and provide a critical lifeline for patients and caregivers, allowing them to stay focused on medical treatment and recovery.”

This year, Southwest is supporting hospitals in 26 states. Many of them are children’s hospitals. The program was actually launched back in 2007 to help those with medical needs. As of right now, they have given free travel to over 96,000 patients and their caregivers.
