Reba McEntire Set To Star In New ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ Series

Norman Lear and NBC are working on a Fried Green Tomatoes series. It will be a series adaptation of the 1991 movie and will star Reba McEntire. Reba will reportedly play a present-day Idgie Threadgoode. For instance, Mary Stuart Masterson played Idgie in the film, which was nominated for several Oscars.

According to TV Line, Reba’s character “returns to Whistle Stop after a decade away and must grapple with a changed town, estranged daughter, faltering café and life-changing secret.” The movie description reads, “A housewife who is unhappy with her life befriends an old lady in a nursing home and is enthralled by the tales she tells of people she used to know.”

The series will reportedly be hour-long episodes but no word yet on when it may premiere or how many episodes will be in the first season. Reba is mainly known for her country music career but she has appeared in several series including her own called Reba.
