Olivia Newton-John recently spoke to Sandra Vergara on Tuesday’s episode of PEOPLE (the TV Show!) about late friend Kelly Preston. In light of promoting her new foundation the Olivia Newton-John Foundation, it was the perfect time to speak on Preston, her battle with breast cancer, and how her new foundation will aim to discover new, kinder therapies for cancer.
“I just know that she was a radiant, beautiful light in the world,” Newton-John says about Preston. She adds that Preston’s husband John Travolta was doing “as well as it can be expected when you just lost your love, your wife and the mother of your children.”

@therealkellypreston was a radiant, warm and gentle spirit – a loving, devoted wife, mother and sweet friend. My heart breaks for John, Ella and Ben. No words can express my sorrow for her family. Kelly’s light shines on in her beautiful children. Xox

Newton-John says that Preston’s death “really strengthened my resolve to form this foundation because I’ve lost way too many friends to cancer, family members and friends. Having lived with it, this is my dream. This is my passion to see a world beyond cancer.”
Preston died back in July following a private battle with breast cancer. In light of what would’ve been Preston’s 58th birthday, Travolta also honored his late wife in a tribute post on Instagram. He posted side-by-side photos of their wedding day and his parents’ wedding day. “Happy Birthday hon! I found this photo of my mom and dad‘s wedding. It was nice to see ours alongside theirs. All my love, John,” Travolta writes.

As for Newton-John’s own cancer battle, she tells Vergara that she’s doing “really good.” She says, “I feel really good. I feel really positive. I’m really excited about this. The vision of a world beyond cancer, which is my dream, that there’ll be world beyond cancer, where people can know that they can manage it. They can live with it like you would with diabetes, and there’ll be ways to treat it and build your body’s immunity so you can fight the illness.”
She continues, “I mean, the body naturally wants to heal itself when it’s given the right tool. So I want to try and find those tools and find them scientifically. I’m so excited about it.”
