“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music,” Dolly wrote in a statement. “I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support.”

If you’re a big fan of Dolly’s, then you know that this is not her first time working with Warner Bros. Previously, Dolly’s life has been brought to the screen by the studio. She inked a deal with Warner Bros. in 2015 for Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors that same year, then Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love the following year. Both TV movies garnered 16 million and 13 million viewers respectively.

The news about Dolly’s Netflix series was actually leaked by a former colleague of hers! At the Netflix FYC panel on Saturday, June 2, 2018, Deadline’s Pete Hammond asked Dolly’s 9 to 5 co-stars, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, if Dolly would ever co-star on their show, Grace & Frankie. Both women said that they’d love to have Dolly on the show, but Lily spilled the beans that Dolly might be too busy since she had a Netflix deal of her own in the works.

Once Lily opened up, she further commented saying that the anthology series would be based on Dolly’s songs and that Dolly herself would be in the series, “yes, when the script called for it.”

There is no official title or set date for the series, though it is scheduled to debut in 2019. Dolly Parton will act as executive producer, singer-songwriter, and will appear in several episodes.

You know that feeling when a photo just brings you back to that exact moment? This is one of those from my time on the The Porter Wagoner Show!

Which hit songs of Dolly’s do you think should be in the series? Obviously “9 to 5” and “Jolene” are no-brainers. What about “I Will Always Love You” and “Islands in the Stream”?

When I was a little girl I used a tobacco stick and a tin can and pretended it was a microphone and I sang on my front porch, imagining I was on the Grand Ole Opry!
