Joe Diffie, the country star best known for the hit song “Pickup Man” has died. He was 61 years old and died due to complications related to COVID-19. Joe was very popular in the ’90s and had many honky-tonk ballads and other fun songs.

He was born Joe Logan Diffie on December 28, 1958. He began his music career as a demo singer in the ’80s and later signed with Epic Records in 1990. Joe had 35 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart throughout his career.

You may remember some of his songs called “Pickup Man,” “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets),” or “Home.” He also co-wrote singles with other country artists including Tim McGraw and Jo Dee Messina. Joe was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1993 and released 12 studio albums during his career.

He also won a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for the song “Same Old Train” with Merle Haggard, Clint Black, Emmylou Harris, and more. He worked with many other artists over the years, and he will be missed.

His Facebook page shared the news. It said, “GRAMMY®-winning country music legend Joe Diffie passed away today, Sunday, March 29 from complications of coronavirus (COVID-19). His family requests privacy at this time.” Joe is survived by his wife Theresa and his five children. He was married four times.
