Ever had a go on the fairground and wished you could just drive the bumper car home? No, neither have we.
Meet roofer Peter Ward. He’s recreated all the fun of the fair at home with his collection of around 40 vintage bumper cars. So far, he’s fitted six of the cars with electric motors so he can drive them round the pavements where he lives in Minster on the Isle of Sheppey.
Admittedly, he’s not going anywhere fast as the cars only do 4 mph and one charge only lasts for 16 miles, but he did once make it to the McDonald’s drive-thru in nearby Sheerness.
Meanwhile, his wife Melanie lives in hope that his hobby might one day start making some money, commenting wryly: ‘It’s all outgoings at the moment.’
