Blizzard has announced a 4K remaster of its classic game StarCraft, a sci-fi real-time strategy game which won legions of fans. StarCraft Remastered features graphics redrawn in the original style but at a much higher resolution, re-recorded music and voice acting, and new race-themed comic book interludes. The original game and its Brood War expansion will be included within the new version, and the whole thing will work on the new Blizzard Friends and Matchmaking service, replacing the old system. The game will be available this summer.

For those of you not up to speed, StarCraft became a huge deal following its 1998 launch, selling over 11 million copies. The story concerns a three-way war between the human Terrans, the lizard-like Protoss and the insectoid Zerg. The Brood War expansion pack became the de facto standard for eSports competition, and the game was once amongst the most-watched videogames in the world thanks to a vibrant professional scene in South Korea. A sequel, StarCraft II, was released in 2010 and has largely replaced the original in competitive play.
