It’s not necessarily about the monetary for me when it comes to collecting and antiquing, it’s about the memories that come along with it. If I could be a “picker” or have enough space to buy all the things I find and fall in love with at auctions, flea markets, garage sales and/or thrift stores, I would be rich in the understanding of the good old days and what people’s lives and tastes and styles were in the decade they grew up in and most familiar with. It just goes to prove that fashion, decor and design are evolutionary. That these things from the past can be turned into modern day treasures and troves.
Here are 12 of our favorite antiques and collectibles from yesteryear, that would look great in today’s modern lifestyle.
1. TEA POTS
Tea is something that is drunk around the world and as a result, tea pots come in many shapes, sizes, colors and forms. People collect tea pots because of the diversity of them. There is nothing cuter or more colorful and dainty then a “short and stout” little teapot.
Fiesta’s appeal lies in its bright colors, modern design, and affordability. Fiesta has been noted as “the most collected brand of china in the United States. The promotion and presentation of Fiesta from the start was as a line of open-stock items from which the individual purchaser could choose to combine serving and place pieces by personal preference and need.
As an early Homer Laughlin Company brochure said:
“COLOR! that’s the trend today…” and it went on to say, “It gives the hostess the opportunity to create her own table effects……. Plates of one color, Cream Soups of another, contrasting Cups and Saucers….it’s FUN to set a table with Fiesta!”
